Many organizations sanction this exciting hybrid dirt / pavement racing. While rules vary most organizations have provisions for stock height suspension or custom lowered suspension designed for 17” wheels and oversize brakes. To be competitive in either class requires different suspension than what you would run on the same bike for off road or motocross.
Supermoto from a suspension stand point is unlike any
other form of dirt bike competition. Classes that require stock height
suspension and brakes place demands on the forks and shock that exceed there
ability to function correctly. This condition is further exaggerated when a bike
is fitted with sticky 17” slicks and a huge front brake. For most riders the
deceleration, lateral compression and acceleration forces are way outside the
envelope of stock spring rates and stock damping.
